  • Hoover High School GIS Presentation and Outreach (February 10, 2006)
A multimedia presentation, detailed discussion, and hands-on demonstration of GIS technology and its applications was given to Ms. Ellen Towers' applied computer technology class at Hoover High School, an inner-city high school in San Diego.  This was the second semester that we have been invited to make this presentation and collaborate with their class. The classes at Hoover have been using our Web Map Portal for visualizing and analyzing local youth obesity and fitness trends around their school in problem-based learning assignments. We were able to get some documentation of our last visit.

Every year, as with most NSF-funded projects, a group of distinguished individuals, representing various specialty areas related to the project scope, conduct an onsite review and provide valuable advisement in order to more effectively meet original project goals and objectives. The first such meeting was held in 2005.
